Amazon AWS have now created a DNS service called Amazon Route 53 which you can use for an extra $1.00 per hosted zone / month.
AWS AMI VMs for < $20/m
According to the AWS Price Calculator and the AWS Price List you can now get started on Amazon AWS for less than $20/m if you choose a AWS Micro AMI instance with no storage:
- 613M of memory
- 0G ‘EBS’ storage
will cost ~ $19/m
However a more useful a AWS Standard AMI instance:
- 1.7G of memory
- 160 GB ‘instance’ storage
will cost ~ $70/m
TurnKey Linux Hub AWS Console
If you dont like the standard AWS Console you can pay extra to use the TurnKey Linux Hub (a custom aws console) that lets you start, reboot and stop and TurnKey Linux VMs and bill the credit card on your AWS account directly. According to the AWS Calculator running 4 large AMI instances for 24hrs/day will cost you ~ $1113/month.
TurnKey Ubuntu VMs
TurnKey Linux claim to have pre-built 45 Ubuntu VMs than can run on Amazon EC2, VMware, VirtualBox, Parallels and Citrix Xen ! The main advantage of a TurnKey Linux VM is that they all include TKLBAM which can backup any VM to Amazon S3 !

Amazon VM Import can now import VMs to EC2 from VMware vSphere, Citrix Xen and M$ Hyper-V.
VM Import is available at no additional charge beyond standard usage charges for Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3.
